Prospective and veteran business owners alike will be the key targets of a March 22 business conference sponsored by Alabama A&M University’s Center for Entrepreneurship and Economic Development (CEED).
The Small Business Development-Business Essentials Conference will be held from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. in the auditorium of Arthur J. Bond Hall, which houses the College of Engineering, Technology and Physical Sciences. A registration fee of $25 is payable at the site.
“This important conference is designed for established businesses, as well as for those individuals who are nurturing business ideas for business start-ups,” says Dr. Teresa Merriweather Orok, executive director of the Small Business Development Center at Alabama A&M University. The conference will be an asset to individuals interested in “furthering economic opportunities” within the community, adds Orok.
Scheduled topics include access to capital; realizing investment capital for the small business; integrating sound accounting principles; essential business strategies for growing small business; and avoiding legal pitfalls in establishing and sustaining a business.
These subjects will be ably presented by a group of capable professional facilitators. The list includes Irving Mitchell, president, Mainstreet Development LLC, Atlanta, and former Georgia Statewide Coordinator for Small Business Development; David Staley, CFP ®, CDFA, CRPC, resident director, Merrill Lynch Financial Advisor and PIA Program Portfolio Advisor; Greg Whitehead, CPA, Huntsville, Ala.; Nancy Vaughn, J.D., Attorney & Counselor at Law, Legal Advantage Human Resources Solutions, LLC; Neil Carville, Redstone Federal Credit Union, Small Business Loan Division; and Alicia White, JMA Enterprises, Inc., Birmingham, Ala.
Special science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) displays and opportunities for collaboration in research and innovation will be presented by Dr. Trent Montgomery, dean, AAMU’s College of Engineering.
