Republican Congressional candidate Mo Brooks today said Parker Griffith’s second campaign brochure in one week printed and mailed at taxpayers’ expense underscores the arrogance of Parker Griffith and is a slap in the face of voters because it advocates the re-election of Griffith less than 90 days before the June 1st Primary.”

“This goes to the very heart of what’s wrong in Washington — arrogance. Printing and mailing a second political puff piece with tax dollars under the guise of ‘voter education’ is an insult, and the voters will remember this on June 1st. The fact that Griffith’s two taxpayer funded campaign brochures arrived in taxpayer mailboxes less than a week apart are a further affront to taxpayers,” Brooks said. “What is there in Griffith’s second taxpayer funded campaign brochure that could not have been said in the first campaign brochure sent just days earlier, thereby saving taxpayers money,” Brooks asked.

Griffith’s second campaign brochure quotes Ronald Reagan about the space program. “It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know Griffith seeks to hoodwink voters into believing he is a conservative when his record says he has been a liberal,” Mr. Brooks said. “It is ironic that Griffith quotes Ronald Reagan when Griffith, a self-professed life-long Democrat, likely voted against President Reagan every chance he got,” Brooks added.

“America has too many elected officials who think rules don’t apply to them or who cover up for each other,” Mo Brooks said. “Griffith should reimburse taxpayers by paying for these campaign brochures out of his personal fortune or campaign funds. That is what an honorable congressman would do,” Brooks added.

“Mr. Griffith’s taxpayer funded campaign brochures violate the public trust in two ways. First, they advocate the election of Parker Griffith, which violates two different Franking rules (See below rules). Second, at a time when America needs leadership to help cut deficits that threaten America’s future, Griffith wastes taxpayer money on campaign brochures,” Brooks said.

“How can anyone realistically expect Griffith to help cut budget deficits that threaten America’s future when Griffith is so willing to spend and waste taxpayer money on campaign brochures? We need leaders in Congress. Leadership means setting the example. Griffith’s example is wasteful spending. As your Congressman, I pledge to have zero mass mailings at taxpayer expense during any election year while I am in office.” Mr. Brooks added.

Mo Brooks is married to the former Martha Jenkins, and they have four children. Mo is a Madison County Commissioner and former state representative, district attorney and assistant district attorney.

Regulations on the Use of the Congressional Frank, Rule 4(a) “Examples of Nonfrankable Items” states, in part, that the following may not be included in mass mailing frankings:

“- Materials (i.e. – photos, logos, slogans) used in campaign literature as well as specific campaign pledges or promises are not frankable.”

“- Members may not project themselves through an election cycle into a future Congress.”
