Huntsville Property taxes must be paid by Dec. 31

Huntsville Alabama - It’s that time of year - the weather gets cooler, the leaves change color, and Madison County property owners receive their tax bills.

County Tax Collector Lynda Hall said that more than 156,000 “courtesy notices” were mailed from her office and that property owners should have received them. The taxes became due Oct. 1 and must be paid by Dec. 31 to avoid interest and penalties.

Those who received a notice on property they have sold may send it back to the tax collector’s office so the new owner may be contacted.

The notices are a courtesy: State law does not require a notice be sent until the property taxes are delinquent, Hall said. There are three ways to make property tax payments:

Mail - Tax Collector Lynda Hall, 100 Northside Square, Room 116, Huntsville 35801. Make checks payable to Lynda Hall, tax collector.

In person - The County Courthouse downtown or satellite offices at Flint Crossing, Meridianville, U.S. 231/431; Southern Family Market on U.S. 72 in Madison, or at Bailey Cove and Weatherly roads in southeast Huntsville; Parkway Place mall, downstairs.

Credit card - Online at co.madison.al.us/paytaxes or by phone at 866-549-1010. You will need to provide the personal ID number that appears on your tax bill and the bureau number of 5323370 to identify Madison County, Alabama, property records.

When paying by credit card, there’s a 2.5 percent convenience fee that goes directly to the credit card processing company.

If your mortgage company pays your property tax, no action is required. Just keep the notice for your records.

For questions or more info, call 532-3370.
