    In the tradition of the orators who have inspired individuals, motivated the masses and invoked spirits, 1 Queen Productions present HBO De Poet Sunni Patterson and HuggyBearDaPoet, two of the most passionate poets of our time.

    Sunni has been a featured performer at the many of Nation’s premier spoken word venues, including HBO’s Sunni Patterson in HuntsvilleDef Poetry Jam. She has also had the privilege of speaking at the Panafest in Ghana, West Africa. She has worked with several well known artists and performers including Hannibal Lokumbe- singing lead vocals for his score,” King and the Crescent City Moon,” Kalamu Ya Salaam, Sonia Sanchez, Wanda Coleman, Amiri Baraka, Laini Kuumba Afrikan Dance Company, and many more.

    Huggy Bear Da Poet was born and raised in the city of Mobile Alabama. Though his talents have allotted him the opportunies to travel the world. Huggy has grace the stages of venues in states from Green Court in L. A.; Apache Café in Atlanta; to the Nuyorican Café in New York City. He has opened up and for such greats as Nikki Giovanna and Jesse Jackson. He has graced the stage with some of the biggest poets, comics & entertainers in the industry. He was also a big Break finalist on the Tom Joyner Sky Show. Through his socially aware poetry he has captivated and evoked social change in each and every venue he has performed. Huggy writes from the heart and performs from the soul. He uses spoken word to motivate, empower, and agitate people toward social change.

    These two powerful forces are joining together for “Ujima,” through poetry. “Ujima” (pronounced “oo-jee’-ma”) is a Swahili word referring to the collective life of a community, working together and assuming responsibility for one another. Swahili is a non-tribal African language that unifies people from different backgrounds with a common tongue. All proceeds from this event will go to Save Darfur. You can help end the genocide by taking small steps that can make a big difference for the people of Darfur. Support “Ujima,” through Poetry which will be held on the Campus of Alabama A&M University in Bibbs Graves Auditorium. November 14, 2008.
