Albarran sentenced to death
Benito Ocampo Albarran has been sentenced to death by Judge Karen Hall.
Benito Ocampo Albarran has been sentenced to death for the murder of Huntsville police officer Daniel Golden in Aug. 2005.
After two days of testimony, Judge Karen Hall upheld the jury’s recommendation from the June trial in which Albarran was convicted of shooting Golden at point-blank range when Golden responded to a domestic violence call from Albarran’s wife.
Judge Hall agreed with the prosecution’s case that the murder, during which Golden was wounded and laying on the ground begging for his life when Albarran shot him in the head, was cruel and unmerciful and required the death penalty.
Albarran’s lawyers say the sentence will automatically be appealed.
