Average mortgage rates in Alabama were gyrating all over for the months of May and June. When the 10 year treasury rate hit right below 4% we saw a heavy sell off and overall interest rates pulled back as well. We have seen a gradual move sideways to down over the last few weeks, but that is likely to change very soon. The 10 year as well as the 30 year fixed rate mortgage are both at the bottom of their upward trend channels so we are likely to see an increase in volatility and overall rates.

The overall average for 30-year fixed-rate mortgages in Alabama declined by nine basis points (.09%) this week, closing at 5.81%. The holiday-shorted week saw the average rate for the FRMI's 5/1 Hybrid ARM counterpart also ease back by nine basis points, closing at 5.22%. Conforming 30-year FRMs declined by eleven basis points, stopping at their lowest average since the week ending June 5.
